6 Delightfully Delicious Teas

Tea MemeHello, my name is Angela, and I am a tea-oholic.

On second thought, that term is rather extreme as it implies addiction. I shall try another. I am a tea drinker? Tea enthusiast? Tea snob? All of the above? Let’s just go with tea connoisseur as it sounds fancy and official and marvelously superfluous.

Hello, my name is Angela, and I am a tea connoisseur. I’ve enjoyed tea parties from a young age, starting with Disney Princess tea sets and later transitioning to Fine Bone China. This is all thanks to my elegant mother—the original 21st Century Victorian Lady—who instilled a love of tea in our family. Each May we put on an annual Kentucky Derby Tea, and the rest of the year, we manage to transform pretty much any occasion into tea time.

Now that you better understand my endearing obsession with a good cuppa, please allow me to gush about some of the best blends I’ve discovered over the years.

6 Delightfully Delicious Teas!

1. Irish Breakfast / Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Black Tea / Served with or without Milk and Sugar

Irish Breakfast is my perfect top o’the mornin’ cuppa. 100% Assam it’s suitable for drinking alongside any breakfast dish, sweet or savory. Have one cup or three, as the lucky clover grows, to set your day off with a sprightly jig! *cue the Riverdance soundtrack*

2. Golden Monkey / Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Black Tea / Served with or without Milk and Sugar

Golden Monkey comes from China’s Fujian province. It features large black tea leaves interspersed with delicious golden tips, which produce a lightly sweet cup. This is one of my absolute favorites! Quite versatile, it goes well with both savory meals and desserts. I like to serve it as a treat in the afternoon or at special occasion tea parties.

3. Rose Scented/ Harney & Sons Fine Teas

A cuppa Rose Scented tea is like drinking perfume! This blend of large leaf tea from China is a delightful experience for the senses. Aside from the incredible fragrance, rosebud petals add a visually appealing blush of color and rose oil creates a sweet tasting cup. Rose is a fabulous dessert tea and goes especially well with chocolate. I recommend going light on the milk, so as not to overpower the delicate floral flavor.

4. Scottish Morn / Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Black Tea / Served with or without Milk and Sugar

Scottish Morn is a stronger breakfast tea for days when dark clouds cloak the sun and storm winds blow, harsh and foreboding, through the barren winter trees. Unless…like me, you reside in Texas. In which case, it’s great for those mornings when you’re just reeeally tired. One sip of this robust tea banishes mental fog like a hearty bagpipe blast!

5. Darjeeling / Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Black Tea / Served with or without Milk and Sugar

In the mists of the Himalayan Mountains grows Darjeeling, which many professional tea connoisseurs refer to as the Queen or Champagne of Teas. A blend of First Flush and Autumnal teas, Darjeeling yields a light colored and fragrant cup. This bright blend, with less caffeine, is perfect for an afternoon tea, dinner, or a grand evening event. I do suggest going light on the milk, so as not to overpower the delicate flavor.

6. Dragon Pearl Jasmine / Harney & Sons Fine Teas

Okay, so I looove this name! Dragon Pearl Jasmine. *le sigh* It sounds like the title of a charming fantasy novel or fairytale, quirky and whimsical and lovely. Hmmm…perhaps I should have listed tea geek in my opening? Anyway…originating in Fuan, China, Dragon Pearl Jasmine is comprised of little hand rolled tea “pearls” gently infused with floral essences from jasmine flowers. Beautiful to behold, this tea produces a light colored brew with full floral flavor and sweet aromas. A lovely bedtime cuppa.

Do you have a favorite blend? I’d love to hear your tea recommendations in the comments! And for more tea related fun, pick up The California Gold Rush Romance Collection to read my novella, THE BEST MAN IN BROOKSIDE, which features a rather awkward tea party scene. (Be sure to imagine Sophia’s British and Donovan’s Irish accents while reading.)
